2017 HVFM ANNUAL
MOVIE COMPETITION RULES

For 2017, the club has eliminated the professional and amateur distinction, and instead divided entries into the following three categories.

DOCUMENTARY CATEGORY:

This category is for videos that do not use actors or scripted lines other than narration. The video may be accompanied by music, sound effects or narration, although neither is a requirement. Entries may be made by individuals or several persons working as a group. The finished video must be no longer than 20 minutes, including titles and credits.

GENERAL CATEGORY:

This category is for videos using actors, and must tell a story. The story may be entirely fictionalized, or based on real events, and should not include any documentary elements. Entries may be made by individuals or several persons working as a group. The finished video must be no longer than 20 minutes, including titles and credits.

1 MINUTE CATEGORY:

The One Minute competition is open to all participants (professional, amateur or novice). The production must not exceed ONE MINUTE running time, including titles and credits.

GENERAL RULES

  1. Each person entering the contest must be a full paid up member, or a life member, of HVFM.

  2. Each member may enter a maximum of 3 videos in total. Each movie must be on a separate DVD/Blu-ray accompanied by a separate completed entry form.

  3. All entries must be a first time HVFM annual contest entry (that is, they cannot have been entered in previous HVFM annual contests, unless they are substantially altered).

  4. All entries must be on DVD or Blu-ray media with title and running time clearly marked on the disc face. Unformatted DVDs and Blu-rays using data files such as H.264, MPEG4, MOV or AVI may be submitted, but we cannot guarantee they will be viewable. To prevent unviewable submissions, please ensure they are properly formatted DVD or Blu-ray discs.

  5. Special awards may be made at the judges’ discretion for outstanding cinematography, editing, sound etc.

  6. The entered movie must have been completed between May 2015 and May 2017. All entries must be submitted to the contest chair person by May 4th club meeting.

  7. The decisions of the judges are final. No contact with the judges concerning the decisions will be permitted.

  8. All entries must be available for showing at the annual awards banquet in June.
